Let’s Dive Deeper

Vertical Honor

Honor is an amazing word. To give honor means to prefer. It means to give preference to God, His thoughts, and His ways. When we choose to honor God we are telling God I lean into you as the one who knows all things and what’s best for me.

Honoring God gives you access to supernatural provision not of this world. God responds when you give Him first place in all things. Honor is saying to God I respect that your thoughts and ways are higher than mine. God, as I start out today, thank you for filling me with your thoughts, ideas, and plans. Let your thoughts and ways flow through me today.

Honoring God also lets Him know you value that all you have is from Him. It also reminds us to never forget to use what’s His as He desires. As we honor Him with all we have He honors us in every area of our lives.

Honor creates an atmosphere that uplifts our soul and changes our outlook. It can be said the outlook determines the outcome. Just taking time to honor God will bring amazing results. I call this vertical honor.

When we start out each day with vertical honor we have access to God's blessings, favor, and divine intervention.

Let’s Go Further

Horizontal Honor

Honor is especially important in the way we treat people. When we honor people we give preference and value to them. We see the good that God has put in them. Regardless of where they are in life or if they are totally different than us, we honor them. Honor adapts to the people you're with and identifies with them to show them love and respect. Honor can cause people to see things about themselves they may have never experienced.

When Jesus came for us, we were all in sin, yet He loved us and valued us. He looked past our sins and saw our potential. You could say He looked past our dirt and saw the treasure in us. He honored us. We are to honor people the same way Jesus honored us. We need honor now more than ever in the world. We need to honor and edify people instead of tearing down.

Let’s honor people and look past what we differ on and see the treasure in them. Jesus said to love your neighbor. Love and honor go together. This is what I call horizontal honor. Let’s honor God, one another, and all people!
